Threshold
Android only — sideloaded, not on the Play Store. See the install note below.
What is Threshold App?
Threshold puts a small pause between you and the apps that eat your time — Instagram, Reddit, YouTube. It doesn’t block them forever. It just makes you earn access, every time.
Before a locked app opens, you do two small things:
- Walk — hit today’s step target.
- Log a habit, or check off a task — habits repeat through the day (pushups, water before meals); tasks are one-off (read, call someone).
That earns you a timed session. When it runs out, the app locks again until you earn the next one.
What it’s not
- Not spying — everything stays on your phone, nothing sent anywhere, no ads, no analytics.
- Not a hard block — “take a break” and a once-a-day emergency access exist for real life.
- Not shaming — no guilt, no nagging, just a pause and a choice.
Install note: one Android popup to expect
Sideloaded apps get an extra permission block from Android the first time. If a toggle says “App was denied access”:
- Settings → Apps → Threshold
- Tap ⋮ (top-right) → Allow restricted settings
- Confirm, then go back and turn the permission on
Repeat per permission if it happens again.
